Statistics & Data Science Student

Hi, I'm Gavin. I analyze data and build tools to explore it.

I'm a student at the University of Colorado Boulder building practical experience in statistical analysis, data visualization, and interactive web apps. I'm looking for internship opportunities in data and product analytics.

Curious about the numbers behind better decisions.

I'm pursuing a B.A. in Statistics and Data Science with a minor in Communication. My work combines careful analysis with straightforward explanations so the results are understandable, reproducible, and useful.

Sunday Sense

An interactive NFL prediction app that turns a football opinion into a prediction you can revisit.

The idea

How can fans test which matchup factors they value and learn from the result? Users choose a game, adjust the importance of football factors, and save their pick before kickoff.

What I built

A web app connecting team statistics, adjustable factor weights, saved predictions, and postgame feedback. Pregame snapshots preserve the information behind a pick so users can review it after the game.

I validated the baseline model with a walk-forward backtest: 766 games from 2022–2024 for training and a 255-game 2025 holdout. The market-only model achieved 64.3% accuracy with a Brier score of 0.2137, outperforming blends with ESPN's predictor. Full methodology and limitations are documented in the app itself.

A personal project for exploring predictions and learning from results. It's educational, not betting advice.

Colorado School Performance Analysis

Analyzed Colorado CSAP math, reading, and writing results from 2009–2011. I cleaned and reshaped school-level data, used bootstrap confidence intervals to measure year-over-year changes, and evaluated regression models with RMSE.
